| In South
Dorset, in a little town between two rivers, lives a school teacher. After
a long hard week, trying to instill learning, he likes to go out to a comfortable
pub, down a drop of the 'Black Stuff' and play a bit of music. He and his
brother started out decades ago in the folk scene as Pithe & Wind. Over time and incarnations such as; Jimmy Pithe, Jim 'E' and of course Jim Etherington, folk clubs and festivals have grown to pubs and marquees, weddings and birthdays, enlivened kneesups and barbecues in barns, because in addition to folk standards he has added his own energetic versions of contemporary blues, country, rock and ballads, even pop hits to his extensive repertoire. Seeing him doing the melody, bass and rhythm whilst playing with his picking finger style is an eye opener, although his are probably closed while he's doing it. Audience participation is enjoyed and encouraged and as often as they can, a number of friends make up the front line with tambourines and various drums. This combination can make the party, even kids and dogs have been included, as those who appreciate a good time follow the gigs around local watering holes and venues. There is also a full band lineup that has to be seen, and enjoyed, which regularly has played to thousands at the Wareham Carnival MS Charity Gig on the Quay. The first Saturday of the last full week in July! |
